The essential oil of tea tree is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Here is how to use tea tree oil for best possible relief:

Tea Tree Oil Foot Soak

You can make a foot soak by adding 10 ml of tea tree essential oil and 3 ml of olive oil to one liter of water kept in a clean bowl. Soak the infected foot in this mix for 20-30 minutes. Repeat the treatment at least three times in a day to get rid of the infection.

  1. Tea tree oil can cause skin irritation and redness. Do a skin patch test beforehand.
  2. Research has indicated that a mixture containing 25 percent to 50 percent of tea tree oil can completely clear the fungal infection in conditions like athlete’s foot, but weak mixes do not. Other Home Treatments For Athlete’s Foot

Best 5 Essential Oils and 7 Recipes For Athlete's Foot Essential Oil Benefits

Athlete’s foot is a condition that can easily be managed with the help of natural treatments. These home remedies will also help the essential oil treatment you are doing for quick relief. Here are some of the home remedies that I have personally tried and tested.

Garlic

Garlic is a potent anti-bacterial and anti-fungal that has been extensively used for the treatment of numerous skin ailments. Here is how to use garlic for relief in conditions like athlete’s foot:

Take 3-4 garlic pods and peel them. Massage the impacted areas for about 2 minutes. Let the crushed garlic stay on the infected skin. Continue this treatment for at least 3 months to get rid of the infection totally.

Apple Cider Vinegar

The strong acetic acid content of apple cider vinegar makes it reliable for dealing with athlete’s foot. Acetic acid acts upon the infection, killing fungi and sanitizing the skin completely. Prepare a foot soak by blending a cup of apple cider vinegar and 2 cups of warm water in a clean bowl. Soak the infected foot in this solution for about 20 minutes. Thereafter, dry the feet thoroughly using a soft towel or a hair dryer (set at low).

The Bottom Line

In summary, this world is going to be healthier if more and more people start using essential oils instead of resorting to artificially made treatments that offer temporary relief and do not address the root cause of the disease. While being highly effective for skin issues like athlete’s foot, essential oils are natural, safer, and, above all, fun to use.

the "tea tree oil with arrowroot powder" recipe says to put it over sox. Does that mean put the sox on your feet and then spread the wet powder mixture over the sox on your feet? Then you would have to be wearing wet sox.. this seems very contrary to keeping the feet dry.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for asking. Just to clarify, you will need to leave the socks on 20-25 minutes, then remove socks, rinse with cool water, and towel dry.

If you have any other questions, please drop me a line.

Hi, just read the recipes for athlete's foot and am ready to try one!!! I'm just wondering how long it will take to clear it up? Over-the-counter creams say 4 to 6 weeks.

Comment from D:

Hi I saw your recipe for athlete's foot spray using essential oils and I'm keen to give it a try. The recipe calls for mixing it with water - just wondering if the oils will actually be dispersed within the water, or whether it may be advisable to use a carrier oil or alcohol instead? Thanks in advance!

Olivia's Response: Great question. The essential oil and water will not generally mix, and you can instead add a carrier oil such as almond oil (preferably no alcohol). Nonetheless, you can still use water, and before each spray, simply shake the bottle vigorously to ensure that you are still receiving the oils.
