Now, you’ll agree with me when I say that aromatherapy, scents, lotions, creams and essential oils are often thought of as girl stuff. Top 10 Most Common Health Issues And Risks For Men
Hello there my fellow brethren. Name’s Richard Price – MD, OBGYN, and male specialist.
Don’t worry; we’re not here to talk about your junk; at least not primarily. Today, we’ll be talking about some of the most common health issues that you’re likely to face as a man.
It might come as a big surprise to most guys, but dude – you’re not invincible. In fact, you’ll be even more surprised to learn that the health status of males in pretty much every country is far poorer than that of women.
Think about it; more males die from common diseases, they experience more accidents and suffer more lifestyle-related ailments such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. Studies also show that men commit suicide more than women due to depression.
Yet the biggest shocker of them all is that men are the last people to visit a doctor or even pay any attention to what’s really ailing them – at least until it becomes too severe to ignore. Like most testosterone riddled males, you’ll probably take better care of your car or property than your body.
I swear, I’ve seen some guys tough out a broken arm for days thinking it’s a minor sprain. I mean, I know men cry on the inside, but some of these stereotypes will honestly get you killed bros.
It’s this lack of awareness, unhealthy lifestyles and flimsy health education that is causing a steady deterioration of the modern, American man. But not to worry guys, Dr. Rich is in the building.
Men’s health issues are far more varied than we’d care to admit. I mean, you hear men’s issues and the first thing that comes to mind is bedroom matters. However, there are specific health issues and risks that are more common than others. I’ve laid them out clearly in their respective categories just for you.
1: Common Diseases and Lifestyle Conditions
a) Heart Disease
Also known as cardiovascular disease, heart disease has to be hands down man’s worst enemy. It beats strokes to become the number one cause of death globally.
The Heart Association of America states that one out of every two adult men has some sort of cardiovascular disease, with African-American men being more prevalent.
Symptoms to watch out for include pain, shortness of breath and discomfort in the upper torso, faster heartbeat, extreme fatigue, and even loss of consciousness. As doctor’s we’re usually able to calculate your risk of heart disease based on the following risk factors which will increase the chance of the condition worsening.
- Stress and aging
- Physical inactivity
- High blood pressure
- Family history of CVD
- Unhealthy diet
This is a disease where your body fails to maintain healthy glucose levels in the bloodstream. Diabetes causes the sugar levels in the blood to either decrease or spike, causing complication if left unchecked.
Unhealthy diets and lifestyles are primary causes of diabetes in men and often leads to various issues with the skin, eyes, kidneys, nervous system, and even urological problems like erectile dysfunction. Causes include living a sedentary life, eating diets high in sugar and carbs and low in fibre and whole grains. Symptoms to watch out for include:
- Abnormal fatigue
- Frequent urination
- Blurred vision
- Numbness of the hands and feet
- Unexplained weight loss
- Persistent sores
- Increased thirst
c) Respiratory Diseases
Research shows that more and more men are diagnosed with lung cancer each year than in the past. Most respiratory diseases start off with that innocent smoker’s cough.
But before you know it, what was a minor cough is now a life-threatening ailment like emphysema, COPD, or even lung cancer. Smoking and exposure to hazards like heavy metals and asbestos still remain the leading cause.
d) Liver Disease
While it’s just the size of a football, the liver does the work of an entire football team in your body. Not only does it absorb necessary nutrients, but it also eradicates toxins and harmful elements from your body.
Unfortunately, men have found creative ways to butcher their livers with potent risk factors such as tobacco and alcohol. Some of the common liver diseases include liver cirrhosis, bile duct cancer, alcoholic liver disease and autoimmune liver disease.
2: Common Sexual and Urology Problems
Most of the times, urology problems such as bladder infections and incontinence are often associated with women. However, men are the ones who suffer more from these issues. Some of these problems can really damage a man’s confidence, self-esteem, and quality of life. They include:
e) Urinary Tract Infection
UTIs occur when bacteria gets into the urinary tract and fails to get flushed out. While more associated with women, men also get UTIs too. If you have a urinary tract infection, you might experience the following symptoms.
- Foul smelling urine
- Stinging while urinating
- Blood in urine
f) Prostate Cancer
Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancerous condition for men. But what makes prostate cancer so dangerous is that it is incredibly slow and silent.
In fact, a majority of men with this type of cancer can live for many years without ever experiencing any symptoms or having the cancer spread to fatal proportions. However, high-grade prostate cancer can be quick and extremely fatal. Symptoms include
- Frequency, difficulty, and discomfort urinating
- Traces of blood in urine or semen
- Pain and discomfort in hips, thighs and lower back
g) Erectile Dysfunction and Low Libido
While ED is usually associated with older men, all you young’uns suffering from it should know that you aren’t alone. Erectile dysfunction affects all age groups of men; including those in their early 20s.
Needless to say, ED can prove extremely discouraging for any man. The main problem comes in when a man can’t achieve an erection or keep it up during intercourse. Erectile dysfunction can be linked to anxiety, mental stress, low testosterone, or several underlying health issues.
3: Accidents and Unintentional Injuries
For some reason, men seem to be at the forefront of all the worst unintentional injuries and accidents. Is it because they do stupid things most of the time without thinking it through? Probably.
Research shows that the leading cause of death for men back in the year 2006 was unintentional injury. This includes things like fireworks-related mishaps, and drowning to traumatic brain injuries from sports and everything in between.
Motor vehicle death rates for men drivers are also almost twice that of female drivers. Interestingly, over 90 percent of all reported fatal work accidents are incurred by men.
4: Psychological Issues and Disorders
According to the Institute of Mental Health, approximately 6 million men suffer from some sort of depressive disorder. This includes some pretty dark intentions and suicidal thoughts.
Hey, being a man in today’s highly competitive world is not easy.
So it’s understandable that many men might feel frustrated and unfulfilled. One high-risk factor for suicide is depression. And no matter what macho men tell you, depression is more than a bad mood.
Most men will put off getting help since they don’t want to appear weak, especially if it’s not a physical problem. Symptoms of depression include escaping to drugs and alcohol, withdrawing from friends and family, feeling of extreme sadness and guilt, and destructive thoughts.
How Can Essential Oils Help With Men’s Problems
As mentioned earlier, essential oils have the power to improve every aspect of a man’s life. Problem is, most men wouldn’t be caught dead by their buddies using flowery named essential oils.
But riddle me this fellas – don’t you use shaving cream? And when you’re done, I bet you enjoy the cooling effect that the aftershave gives you, am I right? And therein lies the catch 22.
So you’ll use shaving creams and lotions but won’t use essential oils because they’ve been marketed as women’s products?
C’mon guys, let’s get out of the 3rd Century. If you have a body and are alive, then essential oils were made by Mother Nature just for you.
Apart from skin health, essential oils also have the power to support healthy digestion, enhance focus, offer relief for aches and sore muscles, improve circulation and boost immune function to help with almost all the common issues faced by men. Out of all the hundreds potentially useful essential oils available, I’ve selected only the best in the batch.
6 Best Essential Oils For Men
Feeling a bit under the weather both physically and emotionally? Then it pays to have one of the gnarliest named oils in your collection. Frankincense is packed with incredibly potent immune boosting properties that should help guard against most of the urology and lifestyle issues.
This includes diabetes, heart disease, liver disease, and even UTIs. What’s more, frankincense oil works wonders for skin health. So next time you cut yourself or need to enhance your shaving cream, then make sure you’ve got this essential oil on hand. And as a bonus, the stimulating and spiritually grounding effects will help you cope better with stress and anxiety.
Here’s another oil that any man should consider a must have. Peppermint is widely renowned for its fresh scent and strong cooling effect. Thanks to a compound known as menthol, peppermint oil is globally used to calm symptoms of pain and inflammation.
It’s this effect that makes it a winner for massaging down aches, sores, and pains. So if you like to hit the gym hard, you might want to stock up on peppermint oil for the post gym winding down ritual. In addition to relieving sore muscles, this particular oil also supports healthy digestion, boosts energy and enhances focus.
If you suffer from any cardiovascular issues or just want to prevent them, then you’ll literally need to keep Ginger essential oil close to your heart. Ginger oil also helps stabilize low or high blood pressure to normal parameters.
It has the innate ability to stimulate blood circulation by either contracting or dilating the blood vessels. As if that wasn’t enough, its antioxidating and stimulating properties make ginger oil a popular aphrodisiac for helping in the bedroom. A study actually revealed that ginger has the ability to improve both the quality and quantity of your sperms.
We all know that when it comes to liver health or anything to do with detoxing, lemon essential oil is king of the ring. This oil is packed with antimicrobial, anti-bacterial, and potent detoxifying properties and regenerative properties that are particularly beneficial to the liver.
The oil stimulates the action of white blood cells and pushes them to fight and defend your body against disease, infection, and stagnation. And thanks to its notable scent, a little aromatherapy will have you thinking clearly with balanced emotions.
Ah yes, Rose oil – it’s definitely going to be tough to find a more romantic oil. Often referred to as the essential oil of love, Rose oil might be the perfect solution to men with erectile dysfunction and low libido.
Rose essential oil does this by stirring desire, enhancing confidence, boosting self-esteem and reducing any negative feelings of fear. This magical oil also improves blood circulation, increases semen production and helps combat nervous tension.
Yeah yeah, I know most of you guys are familiar with lavender air fresheners and perfumes. But did you know that the essential oil itself could be highly useful for managing stress and anxiety as well as depression?
Chronic stress can lead to numerous complications and some dark thoughts. That’s why incorporating lavender oil into your life will help brighten things up with its sweet, soft and uplifting scent.
6 Essential Oil Recipes For Men
1. Minty Shaving Cream
- 7 drops Frankincense
- 5 drops Sandalwood
- 6 drops Peppermint
- Half cup Shea butter
- Half cup cocoa butter
- Cup of fractionated coconut oil
Very few things are as annoying as having to shave off stubborn whiskers every morning. If you’re looking for a shaving cream that can also double as an aftershave, then check this recipe out.
Kick off by melting the butters over some heat in a double boiler. If you don’t have one, create a simple water bath. Once all the lumps melt down, add in the fractionated coconut oil and stir it till it is completely blended. Next, add the essential oils and mix well. Using a hand mixer or whisk, whip your blend until it becomes creamy and frothy – just like shaving cream.
2. Working Man’s Stress Busting Massage
- 3 drops Lavender
- 8 drops Peppermint
- 5 drops Juniper Berry
- 1 ounce sweet almond oil
- Small dark glass bottle
After a hard day at the coal mines, nothing works better for recovery and relaxation than a full body massage. Start by pouring the sweet almond oil in your glass bottle and top it off with the essential oils as indicated above.
Shake well to get all the ingredients mixed up, screw the lid on and refrigerate until ready to use. Warming the massage blend before use will help it absorb much easier into the skin. Apply a few drops to your palms and massage deeply to ease pains and aches – or better yet, get someone to massage you.
3. Blend for Hypertension and Heart Disease
- 8 drops Lavender
- 7 drops Clary Sage
- 5 drops Marjoram
- 4 drops Ylang Ylang
- 45 ml coconut oil
We’ve already established that heart disease is hands down man’s worst enemy. If you want to strengthen your heart and treat either low or high blood pressure, then this here’s the recipe for you.
Combine all the above ingredients in a non reactive bowl and mix thoroughly. Apply the blend to your heart region and vital points regularly, and especially when the hypertension sets in.
4. Potent Serum for Erectile Dysfunction
- 8 drops Ginger
- 5 drops Cinnamon
- 7 drops Lemon
- 4 drops Black Pepper
- 45 ml melon oil (any melon)
There’s no denying it; ED (erectile dysfunction) can really lower the self-esteem of any man and discourage them from even trying in the first place. Lucky for you, I’ve got the perfect, natural alternative to those toxic vitality boosting pharmaceuticals.
The first step involves combining all the oils together in a nonreactive bowl and mixing properly. Once that’s done, apply on the kidney, spine, and lower back at least two times a day.
5. Natural DEO Roller Blend
- 13 drops Frankincense
- 11 drops Peppermint
- 8 drops Lavender
- 12 drops Lemon
- 8 drops Sandalwood
- 9 drops Patchouli
- 4 ounces Fractionated Coconut oil
- Roller or spray bottle
After a hard day at the job, it’s only natural for men to smell like they’ve been actually doing something. But there’s a very thin line between a manly musk and body odor. The last thing you want is to smell all sweaty and dirty after a little physical activity.
To make use of this natural deodorant, add your essential oils as indicated in the spray or roller bottle and top off with fractionated coconut oil. Shake well to mix, then spray or roll a bit under each underarm for all-day freshness.
6. Commando Diffuser Recipe for Low Libido
- 2 drops Black Pepper
- 3 drops Ginger
- 4 drops Frankincense
- 2 drops Rose
This here recipe is called the commando for one main reason. See, not everyone has to know that you’re using oils for whatever reason. So guys, whenever you have company over and don’t want to waste too much time creating a messy massage recipe, just drop the above essential oils in a diffuser and enjoy a magical, sensual night.
Likewise, this commando technique can also come in handy for ladies with stubborn men. Truth is, most men will never admit that they have ED or any problem whatsoever with their machinery (they’d rather blame it on fatigue or stress).
So if your man is hard headed (no pun intended) and won’t do anything to improve his bedroom prowess, just drop the above oils in a diffuser and tell him you’re just setting the mood. All it takes is a little sensual encouragement and your man will be on you like a horny teenage boy. Enjoy!
That wraps up another intriguing, engaging segment on essential oils for men. I hope all you guys out there have learned something new that will improve if not change your life.
Now don’t be scared to expand your essential oil collection just because you’re a man. Trust me; all your boyz will want to know your secret when you look good, feel great, smell even better and seem more confident than Cruise and Denzel put together.
And if you’re still worried about your love life, the essential oil recipes above should have you reaching your full potential without needing any pharmaceutical assistance. Your body will thank you for the natural boost in more ways than one.
