These twenty-six 2-ingredient face mask recipes are all made with food-based ingredients that are probably in your kitchen right now.
They are healing and nourishing and perfect for every skin type (dry, acne-prone, oily, sensitive — seriously, all kinds). It’s a delightful way to spoil your skin. And so quick and easy to make!
1. Avocado and honey
Directions
Deseed ½ an avocado and mash to a smooth paste. Add 1 tablespoon of honey to it and massage into skin for 5 minutes.
How To Use
Apply the remaining mixture in a semi-thick coat on the skin and let it stay for 15 minutes. Wash with luke warm water.
2. Spirulina and yoghurt
Directions
Add 1 teaspoon of spirulina to 1 tablespoon of full fat yoghurt. Mix well.
How To Use
Apply the green mixture to your face, massaging your skin with the creamy formulation as you go along. Coat your skin with what is left and let it work on your face for about 15-20 minutes. Remove with warm water.
3. Tomato and honey
Directions
Mix 1 tablespoon tomato juice/pulp and 1 tablespoon honey.
How To Use
Apply on your face with a brush. Keep the mask on for 10 minutes and wash with cold water.
4. Papaya and aloe vera gel
Directions
Peel and mash a slice of ripe papaya and add a tablespoon of aloe vera gel to the papaya puree. Whisk well using a fork.
How To Use
Spread the mixture on the face in a thick layer. Wash after 20 minutes with cold water.
5. Potato juice and licorice root powder
Directions
Wash and peel a potato and cut it into small pieces. Put the pieces in the blender jar and puree. Add ½ teaspoon of licorice root powder to the potato puree.
How To Use
Apply on the face and neck. Keep it on for 15 minutes then wash with cold water.
6. Whey protein and chickpea flour
Directions
Mix chickpea flour with an equal quantity of whey protein; add enough water to the mixture to form a smooth and thick paste.
How To Use
Apply all over the face and neck but not around the eyes. Keep this mask on for 20 minutes and then wash with warm water.
7. Plump lips mask
Directions
Mix 2 drops of clove oil and a drop of cinnamon leaf oil with a teaspoon of melted shea/mango/kokum butter. Add ½ teaspoon of beetroot powder to the lipids while they are still in a liquid state. Mix well and store in a small glass jar.
How To Use
Apply on the lips for an instant plumping effect along with moisturization and color.
8. Matcha and coconut cream
Directions
Mix a tablespoon of matcha with 2 tablespoons of coconut cream.
How To Use
Massage the mask all over your face and neck and coat your skin with the remaining mixture. Wash off with warm water after 20 minutes.
9. Extra virgin olive oil and flaxseed meal
Directions
Grind flaxseed using your coffee mill. Add 2 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil to a tablespoon of flaxseed meal and mix.
How To Use
Apply on the face, massaging your skin with the mixture. Wash off with tepid water.
10. Rose water and sesame seeds/almond
Directions
Grind blanched almonds or unroasted sesame seeds to a smooth paste using rose water.
How To Use
Apply the mixture on your face and neck, including around the eyes. Keep it on for 15 minutes and wash with cold water.
11. Rice flour/starch with ghee
Directions
Add two heaped tablespoons of rice flour to a cup of water and boil the mixture. Reduce the amount of fluid in the mixture to one half and then take it off the flame. Add a teaspoon of ghee to the rice starch while it is warm (not hot).
How To Use
Apply all over your face and neck. Let it remain on the skin for 15 minutes then wipe off with cotton wool soaked in warm tea.
12. Black lentil flour and milk
Directions
Mix a tablespoon of black lentil flour with 2 tablespoons of milk to form a thick paste.
How To Use
Apply all over the face and neck but not around the eyes. Wait for 20 minutes then wash off with warm water.
13. Rose petal powder and almond milk
Directions
Add enough almond milk to two tablespoons of rose petal powder and mix well to make a smooth paste.
How To Use
Apply all over the face and neck, including the area under the eyes. Wash with cold water after 15 minutes.
14. Lemon juice and honey
Directions
Mix ½ teaspoon of lemon juice with 1 tablespoon of honey.
How To Use
Use a face mask brush to apply the blend all over your face and neck. Wash with cold water after 15 minutes.
15. Egg white and vanilla extract
Directions
Add 1 teaspoon of organic vanilla extract to one egg white. Whisk the mixture well.
How To Use
Apply with a facemask brush. Wash off with warm water after 15 minutes.
16. Carrot juice and milk powder
Directions
Wash one medium sized carrot and puree in the blender. Add a tablespoon of milk powder to the puree and whisk the mixture.
How To Use
Apply with a facemask brush and keep it on for 15 minutes before washing it off with tepid water.
17. Mustard oil with lemongrass essential oil
Directions
Mix 4 drops of lemongrass essential oil with a tablespoon of mustard seed carrier oil.
How To Use
Massage your face and neck with the oil blend and keep on the skin for 30 minutes. Wipe off face with cotton wool soaked in warm green tea.
18. Jasmine flowers and milk/almond milk
Directions
Crush the petals of 20-25 jasmine flowers to a paste. Add this to 4 tablespoons of almond or dairy milk and mix well.
How To Use
Apply on your face with a brush. Wash after 15 minutes using warm water.
19. Strawberries and cream
Directions
Wash and mash 4 large, ripe strawberries to a pulp. Add a tablespoon of cream to the strawberry puree and whisk the mixture well.
How To Use
Apply all over the face and neck and keep on for 20 minutes. Wash off with tepid water.
20. Flaxseed meal and lemon hydrosol
Directions
Grind flaxseed to a smooth powder in the coffee mill. Add enough lemon hydrosol to 2 tablespoons of the flaxseed meal to form a pasty mixture.
How To Use
Spread all over your face and neck using your fingers. Keep for 15 minutes and wash off with cold water.
21. Coriander seeds powder and coconut milk
Directions
Mix 2 tablespoons of coriander seed powder with enough coconut milk to form a smooth and thick paste.
How To Use
Apply all over face and neck with fingers and keep for 20 minutes. Wash off with cold water.
22. Glycerin and bearberry extract
Directions
Add 1 teaspoon of bearberry extract to 2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerin. Mix well.
How To Use
Apply all over the face and neck using a facemask brush. Keep the mask on for 20 minutes then wash off with cold water.
23. Soy flour and nutmeg
Directions
Mix 2 tablespoons of soy flour with ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg powder. Add enough water to the mixture to form a smooth and thick paste.
How To Use
Apply all over the face and neck with a facemask brush and wash off after 20 minutes using cold water. Use 2 pinches of nutmeg if you have sensitive skin.
24. Beetroot and coconut cream
Directions
Boil/steam/bake a medium sized beetroot. Peel once it’s cool and cut into small pieces. Blend the beetroot pieces with 2 tablespoon of coconut cream using a hand/personal blender.
How To Use
Apply the mask with a facemask brush all over the face and keep it on for 20 minutes. Wash off with cold water.
25. Rosehip tea with almond meal
Directions
Brew a cup of double strength rosehip tea, using twice the herbal material as you would normally do. Let the tea cool to room temperature; then add 3-4 tablespoons of the infusion to 2 heaped tablespoons of almond meal. Use your blender to grind to a smooth, creamy paste without any chunky bits.
How To Use
Apply all over the face and neck, including the skin around the eyes, in a thick layer. Keep on for 20 minutes, then wash off with cold water.
26. Flaxseed meal and honey (for cleansing and exfoliation)
Directions
Mix ½ tablespoon flaxseed meal with 1 tablespoon honey. Blend until you get a smooth and thick paste.
How To Use
Apply on your skin as you would any exfoliating face wash. After 10 minutes, wash your face with warm water or wipe it off using cotton wool soaked in warm green tea.
